Congratulations Matthew!

We all gathered at the home of Matthew so we could eat, drink, take pictures, and be merry at celebrating his graduation from Lawrence Central High School class of 2006. It was hot, hot, hot so most of us oldsters stayed inside and hovered around the food.

Here are Joanne and Jen. Joanne even labeled her cup to help identify herself. DSCF0016s.jpg

There was a lot of food! When one got finished with breakfast, lunch was provided. None of the "brunch" combination . And cookies were available at all times!

A good time was had by all. Here Matt opens some gifts and cards as Grandfather looks on.

Memorial day weekend garden update

Since planting a couple of weeks ago we've had a lot of rain, but very little sun and warmth. That is due to change this weekend because we are expecting 90% sunshine and record warm temps during the day. Just this afternoon when I took these pictures the temp was hovering around 84° (29°C) and the humidity was up in the 75% range - great growing weather!

First the tomato ...

first flower

the pepper with flower ...

oregano (not much growth) ...

basil (there are two of them) ...

catnip ...

for a little colour and contrast, a pink geranium.

Glorious Monday!

Well, the WX is nice anyway. I say it is rather cool, but I like it that way. Heat and humidity does me in. Kittay approves although I think she would like it to be a few degrees warmer.
My first client did in her notebook over the weekend. If at first it doesn't print, don't keep try, try, trying it without figuring out why. The queue was jam packed with print jobs sucking up all the CPU cycles to the spooler (which I disabled) and making it appear that her computer was dead.
My second client was perplexed at why he wasn't getting email form his local email server. It ended up being because the "send recieve all" didn't include his local email server. An easy fix.
Later on I am having coffee with Alexis. Looking forward to that, I haven't seen her in about a year.

Good Saturday!

The body shop called at 4:00 pm Friday to say they were finished with Patty. It was supposed to be ready on Wednesday, but the broken side mirror I surprised them with at the last minute had to be shipped from Germany which resulted in two additional day's delay.
The other angst generator in my life was Kittay. She never came home last night, little slut! I walked around calling, looking under cars, looking for her body in the dumpster, and came up with nowt. She was nowhere to be found. I finally went to bed at about midnight and had my window open so I could hear her cries, but she never showed up...until this morning. I am so relieved. I know cats do this, but when it's your cat... She seems ok - no obvious wounds, but I notice that her collar is missing. She's had her tubes tied, so I don't have to run to Wal-Mart for a morning-after pill.

Free at last!

The big L has drifted off to the right over Pennsylvania someplace. The rain has stopped for the most part and Kittay is delighted. It is still somewhat cool, and clouds still rule the sky, but it is dry. There is a big H trying to slide in from the left to take its place.

Still raining

That L (low pressure) is still hanging over Indiana bringing on constant clouds and rain. Kittay, who is not afraid to go out in the rain (unusual for a c-a-t), is a bit depressed. Poor Kittay!

Rainy days

It is pouring out. I emptied the rain gauge this morning and it read 1½ inches fell overnight. The forecast says rain through the weekend because there is a stalled low pressure area over the Great Lakes (da Mitten) and it is bringing rain.
Kittay is not amused. She was out for about 90 minutes and she made her rounds, but she is back inside and will probably stay inside for the rest of the day.
Of course it is 70° (21°C) in London and sunny with 35% humidity. Not right!

Planting Day!

I went to Weaver's Garden Center and bought a few plants, mostly herbs and vegetables. Last year I planted a cherry tomato and there were dead uneaten tomatoes everywhere, this year I did a 180 and got a Beefsteak variety. I had way too many peppers last year as well, so I bought only one California pepper plant. I also got some oregano, since I like pizza and spaghetti dishes. It is still cool, but I got some Italian Basil.
Oh, and I didn't forget my Kittay - catnip!

First the tomato ...

the pepper ...

oregano ...

basil (let's hope it survives this year) ...

and catnip.

I shop at Best Buy

This is an excellent little social experiment. I wonder how different it would be if it were done in Indiana instead of Manhattan?
