Whoa! Hot News!
Our cousin on the IOW is pregnant!
Tanith is expecting delivery on August 4, so I guess she's has had the ole bun in the oven since before Christmas. I asked if it was a B or G and she said she would find out at her next appointment in a couple of weeks.
I'll let you know.

Yep, there are signs . . .
Spring is on the way!
First - the light. I had to re-set my automatic light timer because the downstairs lights were coming on and the sun was still up. I don't notice the mornings as much, but I never notice much in the morning anyway.
Second - birdsong. In addition to sighting the first robin, it seems like there is a bit of a chorus in the mornings now. It even penetrates through the double glazing.
Third - crazy squirrel activity. They are chasing around on the ground and up the trees, spitting and hissing all the while.
We are supposed to have a warmish week so I imagine I shall see some early bud swelling and maybe the tip of a crocus or two poking up by next weekend.

OD'd on Olympics
I think I have reached my saturation point with watching the Winter Olympics. I TiVo it everyday, and usually watch one day behind. I am not much of a jock, but the I find the Olympics interesting. Today, though, is an outside day. It is not really warm, but the sun is bright and will warm things up. We are getting more and more of it everyday and I notice the day's length growing by leaps and bounds.

The Poot rides again!
I picked it up yesterday after the mechanic installed new CV joints on, as it turned out, both the left and right front wheels. Normally, they said, the procedure is to exchange the part with a new one. In my case, the "new" one did not fit properly, so they sent mine out to be reconditioned. That is happening more and more with my little Pootie. Next year it will officially qualify for "antique" license plates.

The first robin of spring! (and a disinterested cat)
More old car woes
Pootie, my beloved 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI, decided to roll over to 175,000 miles on a little exercise drive Saturday afternoon. I am not real good about taking those drives, but try to get some miles on it every weekend. It has an oil temp gauge in the center panel so I make sure I get it hot enough to boil off any moisture which might have condensed in the crank case.
About the time I started to slow down from highway speed, there was a huge vibration coming from the front left area. Turns out the CV joint called it quits and is now being replaced.

Who said the internets was a time waster. Go to this link and check it out! Since I am a regular visitor to Old England, I find my self in London quite a lot and getting around using the buses and the tube. I even have a "Mind the Gap" hat - which I only wear on this side of the Atlantic of course.

A little nippy
I like to use my "smokey joe" grill all times of the year. Tonight, after a long day of active Olympics watching, I decided a small steak was in order. I thought it was a bit cool out back while I was lighting the grill. Kittay wanted no part of going outside, and she is quite the social animal and never misses a chance to meet her friends.
Officially it is 10°F (-12°C)! Aaak! Just the other day it was in the 60's and there were tornados about!

My "you catch up missing sleep on Thursday" theory still holds. I barely felt like getting up this morning. That, coupled with warm rainy WX outside. Rain is always conducive to excess sleeping.
I solved the morning mystery by process of elimination. I noticed this past week, my blog was allowing popups for some reason. I narrowed it down to the http://www.webstats4u.com/ counter on the sidebar. So bye-bye to that turkey!

Only a Wyomingite could think of this . . .
from the county where drunk driving is considered a sport, comes this true story.
Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a bar in Baggs, Wyo.
After last call the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk.
The man stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing.
After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car which
he fell into. He sat there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine, dry summer night).
He flicked the blinkers on, then off a couple of times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights.
He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patron vehicles left At last, the parking lot empty, he pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive slowly down the road.
The police officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, and
promptly pulled the man over and carried out a breathalyzer test.
To his amazement the breathalyzer indicated no evidence of the man having consumed any alcohol at all! umbfounded, the officer said, "I'll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken."
"I doubt it," said the truly proud Cowboy, "Tonight I'm the designated decoy."
I was a total slug this past weekend. While some of my family are digging out of the New York blizzard, I watched the Olympics non-stop. Now, I must do Monday things.
Full moon out there - the cat is already a bit jittery.

Remember when . . .
(copied word for word from Jozjozjoz)
If you read this... if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often or don't really know each other)..... Your job, your mission, nay - even your new goal in life is to post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me.
It can be anything you want - good or bad. It can be about that time when I spent the night with you in the South American jail because you got drunk and tried to pick up on a cop.... or it could be about that night that felt liktime half a forever ago when you and I hopped on railroad cars and rode clear across Kentucky... BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.
When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you!
Post away - and be creative!

She needs to be reminded that there is a more important significance to this day other than the bloody Super Bowl! Happy Birthday Angela!

I put the cat out yesterday morning when I left at about 10:00 am. She was very reluctant to give up her warm spot on my bed so I had to carry her to the back door. It started raining around 1:00 pm. It rained all afternoon . . . steadily.
I think I have been forgiven, but we shall see in a couple of hours when it's time to go out again today.
