They kept my Poot!

Buggers! When Katie and I went to dinner last night, I noticed that Poot's battery light stayed lit. A quick glance at the voltage meter (GTI's have voltage meters in the console, as well as a clock and oil temperature gauge) confirmed that the alternator wasn't putting out! Well, because it was raining I thought the fan belt might have been wet and slipping causing this condition. Nada. Eventually the light blinked out and I forgot about it until today.
The same thing happened when I started it up this morning. Damn! I finally brought it to an electrical shop which was recommended to me because they know old cars. After an hour of waiting, the guy came out and said they didn't have a replacement alternator for my 22 year-old, ancient bloody car so they would have to rebuild the one that was in it, and would I like a ride home because it was getting late, etc.
So they still have Pootie. At least I brought it to the right place with the facility to totally rebuild the ailing alternator. Sheesh! Old cars . . .
