Trouble in paradise

Finally after a month, the basil plant has started to grow properly with good color and many new leaves. Unfortunately, on one of those new lush leaves, I found this.
I remember my mum using a mixture of baby shampoo and water in a spray bottle to repel insects, so I looked around and found some citrus cleaner and sprayed it on. The bugs didn't like it, so we shall see if it continues to work.
The other problem I noticed was this. Some kind of jungle rot. Don't know what to do about that, or even what it is. Fortunately, there are plenty of unrotted peppers to go around.

Then there is this matter, but that's a whole 'nother issue.

WOW your plants look much better than mine! My basil did not like the cold/wet start of summer and rotted away.

Everybody's basil was anemic this year. Mine didn't start to grow until last week.
