Using "Gift Cards" in restaurants - BEWARE!

They debit an additional 20% if you don't "leave a tip" on your charge!

My routine is to charge only the meal on the card, and pay the tip in cash. I did this last night.

Today I got online and looked at the list of transactions charged to the gift card and noticed that the restaurant charge amount was not correct. I telephoned the restaurant and asked them to check their charges, they did, and called me back with the correct amount.
I called the bank that issued the gift card to ask them what gives? Then they told me about this plus-20% practice. They assured me that the 20% would be credited back to my gift card "in a couple, but up to eight days." Bastards!

Gift Cards are a nuisance! Give cold-hard instead!

Jebus. I'm all for tipping well, but forcing gratuities is going a little too far. Oh, and by the way - turns out you were right about my blogging more with my new job. Rob said to me the other day, "You're blogging like a madwoman, aren't you?". Well it was something about being a madwoman, anyway. I'll have to make you a trophy or something. ;-)

Keep up the madness! Maybe Rob will surprise you with plane tickets to London and we can get together and have tea in Richmond next Fall.
