Dim Sum - a total yum!

Today was the day Katie and my friend, Jen got together for dim sum. We have been talking about doing this for the past year and a half, but we finally got our arses in gear and went down to one of Indianapolis's best kept secrets, Shangahi Lil.

I am new to this dim sum thing, but it is just like an Asian tappas bar. You get this series of appetizer-sized portions of food you choose from a list. Everything from boiled chicken feet to five spiced beef (cold), steamed meatballs in sticky rice to seaweed salad. If you ever get to Indy, go to Shanghai Lil.

You need to come out to visit sometime, RWH. The dim sum parlors here in the NoVA area (and there are several good ones) feature little carts that independent contractors push around the dining room. The cart women get a commission on how many plates they sell off their carts. As soon as you enter the room (sometimes before you sit down) they start attacking you with their stainless-steel carts, lifting the lids on the steamed dishes and explaining the contents to you in VERY bad English, and basically just making your head swim with pure unadulterated gluttony. Sometimes you will have two or three women all trying to tempt you at once (when was the last time THAT happened?). MUCH better than picking your choices off a list -- besides, you can tell right away which dishes are Pickled Ducks' Feet or whatever and don't have to wonder: Gee, "Emperor's Webbed Slippers", that sounds good, maybe I should order it...

I do like the "see it before you buy it" approach.
