Katie gave me a kitty
Does anyone know what the writing says?

Ah, it's Maneki Neko! This is like a good luck charm for the Japanese. Most shopkeepers in Japan have a "beckoning cat" in front of their store with its left paw raised (which invites people/customers in their shop). Your cat has its right paw up, which is inviting money and good fortune. My Japanese kanji skills are very bad now (it's been ten years since I've used them!), but I think I can translate the general sentiment there... The sticker on the left says "lots of good luck"... or it could be the name of a company ("Daikiti"). The sticker on the right (his foot?) says "building healthy luck" which is probably to say "bringing health and luck to you" or something like that.Posted by: Dave2 at December 30, 2006 07:36 PM

Thanks Dave! I have seen similar figurines at some Asian food markets and stands. I need all the luck I can get! Happy New Year, Dieter. I will just forget about the birthday part if you don't mind ;-)Posted by: Nez at January 2, 2007 12:58 PM
