Upgraded
I must say that MT needs to be more user friendly on the technical side. I maintain my own server and my blog resides on it. I guess I did OK on the upgrade to ver 3.15 - after all you ARE reading this post. There was a bit of a rough patch though, but I managed (I think) to get through it. Not being a Unix guru has its disadvantages when it comes to things like setting permissions and such. Let me know if it does anything weird.
Thanks for registering to post comments. Since that system was implemented, I have not had any more comment spam.

Poot's tires
The mechanics checked out the tires and found them to be OK. No leaks after all. I have decided to replace the two on the front anyway. My own fault, I guess. I never bothered to "rotate" them every x-thousand miles like you are supposed to do. The result of that laziness is increased wear on the front two tires and premature replacement.

The world is not flat . . .
but Pootie's right front tire is. I noticed something funny in the McDonald's drive-thru this morning. It seemed sluggish and wouldn't roll properly. When I got home, further examination revealed that much of the air was missing from the right front tire. So, off to the store to get some fix-a-flat. It worked! But I could hear a faint "hissssss" so there is a leak. Well it held enough air long enough for me to drive to my favorite car repair place. I left it on their lot since they were closed and will deal with it further tomorrow morning.

Dodged that bullet!
We were supposed to get between two and four inches of fresh snow last night, but the storm passed to the north of here sparing us the trouble of having to dig ourselves out. South Bend and Ft. Wayne and the like got a massive snowfall, but they are used to it what with "lake effect" and all that. I heard we got some freezing rain so my car windows probably have a coating. I have not ventured outside yet.
I will soon though. My friend Andy has requested some printed photographs of our old College that we took last month. I have wanted to try Target's photo printing machine so this will give me the chance.

Potatoes in our midst
Silly baby lawyers! We decided to celebrate justice today in the law offices of one of my clients. Mrs. Potatohead got dressed up as Justice! We made two versions, "guilty" and, of course, "not guilty." Can you spot the difference? This is what Lawyers and IT Consultants do on Inauguration Day when they feel frisky. Be warned!

Wild
I am in love with Helen Baxendale. I watched the first episode of "Cold Feet" last night and that is probably what did it. I will get over it.
The temp is inching up finally. Yesterday morning's 0 ° F stuff has got to go. But, as they say, everything is relative. I think of my niece up there in Rochester Minnesota where the minus temps are de rigure in the Winter months. It is 33 ° now, maybe some melting will happen today which would be nice. The side-roads in this town hardly get any attention and are dangerous.

Winter wonderland . . . again.
Looks like we got about two inches overnight. It is still coming down this morning, real fine dry white powder, great for skiing, bad for snowballs. I am going to go downstairs and make a cup of tea and contemplate whether I want to go outside in it or not. Probably not because it is only 18° out (-7°C). The advantage to this type of snow is when there is only one or two inches, you can whisk it away with the broom. Just start driving and it will blow off the car in a few seconds. And it does look pretty. Argh!

LJ still porked!
I am glad I switched to MT last year and decided to host my journal on my own hardware. Livejournal has been out of service for twelve hours already. I would have no idea how to bring a monster like that back to life. I have a hard enough time just keeping my little office clean!

Working hard or hardly working
Now is the time of day and year to install updates to servers. I am sitting here at 18:00 clicking OK buttons, installing all the critical updates to the NT4.0 lame server. In order to do this, you have to kick everybody off the server so you can reboot a myriad of times after each update. The only time everybody has no interest in working on their computer (i.e. the network servers) is usually on Sunday, or the Friday before a long weekend - hence, my current situation. Ho hum.
Comment spam has become intolerable lately, so I have switched to the authentication method of commenting. Nothing personal.

I work for food!
I got to attend a lovely dinner last night hosted by Joanne, and man, this girl can cook! Our friend, Jen, also found her way there to complete the ensemble along with Joanne's soon-to-be-five-year-old daughter, Emily. The WX was closing in on us, and Joanne lives some thirty miles outside of town, but in the end it worked out. The temp dropped some 30 degrees during the evening! The precip went from heavy rain to light rain to sleet to snow inside of two hours!
I have a slow Friday schedule today. Many places have Monday off and so people are extending it to a four day weekend by staying home today. So, actually, today is a good day to get some things that require concentration - I am expecting that telephone to just sit there all day.

Another WX post
I don't believe I just heard a clap of thunder. Rarely do I hear it in January in Indiana. We have been getting much rain all day and now, thunder! What's next, tornado?
Today was frustration city for the kid. I got a good start. Delivered a finished product (repaired computer) to a client from yesterday. Then had a half-hour consult with an old client about revamping their email and messaging system - possible future assignment. Then this afternoon I visited a client and installed Act on their server. There's where the frustration sets in. The new version of Act is much more secure and difficult to work with compared to previous versions. I finally got it installed and distributed. There are a few lingering issues that the client must take up with the Act people. Argh!
Now I still have to clean up this office tonight! It is 7:30 PM and I am wasting time already. Sheesh!

The yellow bits are thunderstorms!

Still chaos
I didn't get very far with the organizing. In fact, I didn't get anywhere. I made myself some lunch, but it just upset my stomach so I had to lie down. That led to a nap, etc. So, basically, between me feeling under the weather and the Fawlty Towers marathon on BBC America, I bagged any organizing.
Maybe tonight if I have the energy.

Chaos
I need to make the supreme effort and bring some organization to this place. It's a smart Japanese tradition to start the New Year with a thorough cleanup. American's have Spring cleaning. I must tear myself away from the computer and TiVo today long enough to make an impact on this place. I have too many piles of stuff everywhere. The piles are falling over, avalanching all around me, if you will. I guess I should start by combing through the place, room by room, and getting rid of the trash. If I am lucky, that is as far as I will get.

Meme stolen from yellzer
Taking the first sentence of the first post of each month in 2004:
Jan: I missed the midnight hour.
Feb: At 7:27AM on Monday February 2nd, 2004, Punxsutawney Phil, King of the Groundhogs. Seers of Seers,
Prognosticators of Prognosticators, Weather Prophet without Peer, Imitated but Never Equaled
gave the following proclamation:
I'm glad I live in this luxurious burrow on the Knob,
And not in a dirty, smelly spider hole like a slob.
Mar: You're a much weaker person than you used to be, but you still
act like you did when everyone looked up to you.
Apr: The temps have dropped back down into the 30's today.
May: Finally got over my cough enough to allow work to be somewhat tolerable.
Jun: You are the 1908 Metropolitan Map!
Jul: The town is very quiet today.
Aug: I am going to ditch the code for that thing if they don't get it working again very soon!
Sep: My, what a busy little September day this has been.
Oct: I have a busy day in store today.
Nov: Tomorrow afternoon I return to the US.
Dec: I was driving home last night and had the radio tuned to NPR.

A petit rant. I guess you'd call it a "runt"
I have a small office I use on the eighteenth floor of a twenty story, downtown-type office building. There are two banks of elevators (lifts for the Brits out there) in the building; the first bank services floors 1 through 11, and the second bank, floor 1 and floors 11 through 20. It drives me nuts when some smartass eleventh-floor troll uses the second bank elevator with me. Those buggers have the nerve to call it "the express" because they go straight to their floor without stopping!
All done.

Thirsty?
They closed the schools today because of a boil water order from the local water company. It is the first time I can remember that happening here. Personally, I use bottled water to drink and have a filter on the tap water as well.
I took a shower so I wonder if that is going to be a problem? I doubt it. I did notice that the water pressure was not what it usually is, or maybe it was my imagination. I let the tap run a bit, but did not see or smell anything unusual.
I went to my usual place to get lunch. Taco salad. They suspended fountain drinks for the day due to the "boil water" order. They gave me a can of coke instead. I guess this is a pretty big deal after all.

It is Friday! FQ TOPIC: Time.

George W. Bush
FQ3: What's something you'd like to do more of if you had extra free time?
Attend more concerts and extended travel

Noah, where are you?
It has been raining constantly for two days and nights. I kept waking up last night because I heard the rain pounding on the window. Rain is one thing, but now they are predicting a cold snap this afternoon which will make it freezing rain and sleet - worse than snow if you are driving!
Here is a snap of the solid band of rain which is supposed to turn freezing later in the day.

Argh!
This work routine is so foreign! I have only been away ten days or so and I have completely gotten out of work-mode. Now that I am back, I am finding it to be quite an adjustment.
Anyway, I am enjoying the unseasonably warm WX outside even though there is a steady, gentle rain. Maybe I need a second cup of coffee to kick start my brain, I took a vacation from that too!

Back in the Saddle
Already. No excuses now. I am getting emails requesting my assistance. I hoped to have a bit of lie-in this morning, but I knew that was a fantasy from the start! Ah, but there is a steady rain falling outside. You know how nice that is to sleep to. Just a gentle pitter-patter on the roof.
Oh well.

Gone into "slug" mode
I am back home in Indiana for sure. I have hardly gone outside since I returned from New Jersey. Of course, it is raining out but it's unseasonably warm. Maybe a little walk would be nice. Exception: I did visit a client last Thursday for about ninety minutes.
Yesterday I installed a new graphic display card in my desktop computer. I thought the onboard one was a bit slow and found the new one at a bargain price. It has 128M of video RAM. Today I am going to get caught up on my TiVo viewing. I am a slug.

A surprise
I hate it when the staff at some restaurant chain gathers around the victim and sings "Happy Birthday" to them at the top of their lungs. Yes, it happened to me last night. Darling daughter Katie set it all up at Olive Garden. I found out that I hate it when they do it to somebody else. When they do it to you, well, it's not so bad. Thanks to Katie for pulling it off. It was a complete surprise.
