Cars again
I took Katie's car in to be fixed. Well "took" is not accurate. There is no more lining on the clutch plates, so it had to be towed. When they were in the process of replacing that, they said the front brake pads were severely worn and the transaxle needed to be replaced. It is gonna be a big bill.

Holy Moley!
There is a hail storm going on outside! I have never see an accumulation of hail before, just random tic-tic-ticking on the windows and roof. Now it is pounding! I'll bet my car has a few dings in it after this.

Earth Day
Happy Earth Day. I remember the first one back in 1970. Nixon was president. War raged in Vietnam. Gasoline was 35¢ a gallon (in the US). I transferred back from Ohio to New Jersey and started at Upsala. Seems like yesterday. I hope Earth Day continues on. I attended its birth and hate to see the child die. I think I'll go hug a tree.

Turn your back and . . .
All kinds of little changes happen. I noticed that gas prices dropped about 10¢ since last Saturday. Everywhere is green now. Dogwoods are out. Lilacs are out. Tulips are almost past their prime. People are starting to mow their lawns. My car was covered in a greenish yellow powder - it rained last night so that's taken care of.

Back in the saddle
I was sick this week. Felt dizzy and uncomfortable for a few days. Things seem pretty much back to normal today, so I am back out in the world. Actually, I felt better yesterday, but decided not to rush things, so I spent the day watching old Errol Flynn movids on TCM. He was a classic dude, but checked out at 50.
I arranged to have Katie's car fixed. The clutch is totally worn down and needs to be replaced. I also got around to dropping a few things off at the tailor to be mended, and visited the PO box. I have been a productive lad today. I still have to finish the laundry I started on Saturday, and get some food in tonight - the cupboard is bare.

Taxing Day
But they are 99% finished. I just have to sign, copy and mail. I am so low tech when it comes to taxes. I am not going to make it "easy" on them.
It is a beautiful day here in the heartland. They still can't decide properly about messing with the clock. It took me years to get used to not change the clocks twice a year and I kind of like it that way. Early on it was messy because the TV schedule would be off by an hour. Now, with digital technology, they are able to delay things by an hour so they show up as scheduled. My TiVo takes care of all that anyway.

What I missed - Wales update
I spoke to my relatives in London this morning fresh back from a week in Central Wales. Sounds like the middle of Wales is the place to go if you want to "get away from it all" so to speak. I hear that they were the only folks there - for miles and miles. No cellular service because I tried to call them midweek. They did have tee-vee so they knew that the Pope died, and that Charles and Camilla were going to the altar.
I would have enjoyed the solitude myself, but this year I had other duties which required me to remain stateside this Spring. Maybe next year . . .

Pimping the Pope
They just planted him a few hours ago and already I am getting things like this!

Hungry, anybody?
All of a sudden pie seems to be popular in my neighborhood. Take a quick look at this.
Also here.

Poot again
My $700+ factory authentic exhaust system went to pot. I am afraid to look up when I last got it done lest it be not very long ago and I got ripped off, or it was years ago but my compressed perception of time passing is all the more compressed.
Either way, this time I took it to Ralph's on the corner and he charged me $89 to set it right again.

A back-to-work Monday
But the WX is far too nice to stay inside all day. Grrr.
I got a text from Lydia saying she was on her way to Wales with the rest of the family. Lucky. If I get some pictures, I will be sure to post them here. Wales is quite beautiful this time of the year. I tried to text her back, but she may be in a dead spot mobile-phone-wise.
Katie said she was going to find a job this week. I hope so. I wonder if she has read this.

Morning tea time
It is cloudy but bright out this morning. The red buds on the tree outside my window are swollen, but no sign of any leaf activity yet. The grass is coming back into color in clumps of green. It is still in the low fourties today. I am stuck inside working on the taxes and other things.
