All in the family?
There was another scraggly ol' big-headed tom that used to hang around here a couple of years ago.

Do you see any family resemblance?

Fruits of labor
Last night I grilled myself a small filet, boiled up an ear of fresh, sweet Indiana bi-color sweet corn, and sliced up my ugliest home-grown tomato. Total yum! The skins are so thin because they are not modified for shipping. The flavor is complete and rich. I have a few more coming on the plant, so it's good eatin' for the rest of the season.
Speaking of eating, Kittay's wild friend is coming around every day for his handout. He used to run for the hills as soon as I opened the door, but it is amazing what a little bribery (food) will do to the attitude.

End-of-July garden update
Harvest time! I have started to pick tomatoes although they aren't completely ripe yet. There are plenty more on the plant which will keep me in tomatoes well into September.

We lurve Ikea!
On the spur of the moment Saturday afternoon, Katie and I gassed up the car and took off for Chicago, well Bolingbrook Illinois, with the goal of going to Ikea. If you have never been to Ikea, go. In my case it was worth the three-plus-hour drive each way. We went nuts and had to fold down the back seat of the Passat to cart home our spoils. Katie bought a bed and a bedside table, and I bought a small coffee table.

Getting ready for some harvesting
The pepper plant is the first. I may just do some pasta with Itailian sausage and pepper for tonight's supper, using this prime example of course - getting the best of it before the squirrel does.
Even with all the beetle damage, my basil is abundant. I am glad they have taken a liking to the geranium. The bug bag has helped as well.
I am looking forward to having a few of my own tomatoes in a few weeks. Chopping a wayward branch off the plant seems to have allowed it to channel its energy back into the remaining fruit.

Back to the grind
Poor Kittay. He has had his fill of pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations. Poor bugger hid under the deck all night. Just when things started to get quiet, and he developed the confidence to emerge, the bombs started up again.
He is back to normal today. And his new purple collar is still intact.

Try, try again.
I have installed collar number 345 on the cat. Maybe he likes purple.

Fighting back
Calling all hungry/horny Japanese beetles. Come and check out "the honey pot" over here. I just hope I don't end up attracting more of the buggers to my poor basil plants.

Lost!
That damn Kittay went and lost that beautiful black and white, moon and stars collar!
